20 Best Alternatives of Adobe Photoshop

However, it is correct that most of the designers use Photoshop to give color and life to their imagination but it is not the only application. There are many other alternatives to Photoshop’s, which can give your imagination a life. So why not try couple of these applications, which are as good as Adobe’s application.

Those who have worked on Adobe Photoshop can find it hard to separate themselves and may have some different opinion about any other application but every one cannot and do not purchase the original software. So why steal or support piracy when you have some really good options available.

  1. What about Corel Photo Paint, included in CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4? It’s reasonably priced compared to Photoshop and is a very powerful editor.

  2. Great list! thanks for sharing all these. Some of them I have never heard of. You should add Aviary to the list since its free and completely based online so need for a download.

  3. What about Splashup.com?

  4. HOW can you leave Pixel32 off from that list? It has photoshop’s features (literally) and it works with Windows, Linux, Linspire, MacOSX, BeOS, Zeta, QNX, MorphOS, FreeBSD, eComStation, OS/2, SkyOS and DOS.

  5. Some good links here, but your post is a little hard to follow. That said, I’ve used GIMP for about 5 years now and haven’t found anything close to it as a photoshop alternative. Photoshop is still the king; no question about that, but those of us who can’t justify 6 or 7 bones for a piece of software like that need to have something else. And that’s where GIMP comes in. I do all of my RAW editing in UFRaw and finish it up in GIMP.

  6. Hi,

i think there is no realy alternative for Photoshop. Maybe sumopaint is an alternative, if you prefer online tools.

  7. Are these listed in an order of preference or random? Is there a preference if random?

  8. GIMP is great, but missing from the list are my two personal favorites.

Corel Paint Shop Pro for working in Windows and Pixlr for editing directly on the Web.

Perhaps neither is as complete as Photoshop, but PSP is well under $100 and Pixlr is freeware.

  9. Hi all,

NIce post of resources. I do no think that the admin has put it in the order of preference or if even there is any preference then it would be of individual. The order seems more like random.

  10. http://www.expono.com/

more than an alternative to photoshop – also a social sharing site. But it has a nice picture-editing-function.

  11. WoW :) Awesome collection of tools for alternative of photoshop but photoshop is the best for photo editing. Thanks for sharing this nice post.

  12. Great article. I’m a web developer, not a designer, and I find Photoshop far too cumbersome now. After version 7 I gave up on it. Xara is excellent as are some of the others you mentioned.

I’m surprised Adobe Fireworks didn’t make the list. It deserves a 10 out of 10 for web design.

  13. Great post! thanks for the share!
    I’ll share too! ;)

    Keep In Touch!

  14. but the very best Alternative is Paint Shop Pro. :-)

  16. It is outstanding tutorial for creating alternatives to Photoshop’s. I will try these applications in photoshop soon. Thanks..
